2 Boksburger students arrested for rape of a 13-year-old student

Two students from the Reiger Park in Boksburg were arrested for rape of a 13-year-old girl.

The boys – aged 16 and 17 – allegedly raped the 13-year-old on 28 February. The incident was reported on 6 March Boksburg Advertiser,

The school can not be named to protect the identity of the girl.

The girl, who was late for school, had entered the compound when it had climbed over the fence. At that time, the boys allegedly grabbed her and dragged her to a bush where she was raped.

The boys allegedly filmed the entire attack.

Gauteng Police spokesman Kay Makhubele has confirmed to News24 that two minors have been arrested and will soon be brought to justice for rape.

The Ministry of Education of Gauteng said it was outraged by the incident.

"Shocking and worrying"

The victim did not seem to inform her parents immediately because she was afraid. She is currently receiving medical treatment, said department spokesman Steve Mabona.

Mabona said the two boys were arrested and subsequently released into custody of their parents.

He added that the boys had been suspended from school at a disciplinary hearing until their appearance.

"The police visited the school to contact another student who allegedly recorded the rape incident, but it turned out that the video has since been deleted," he said.

Mabona added that a psycho-social unit team was at the school and offered counseling services to the students.

"It is shocking and worrying to see incidents of sexual abuse of learners in our area, which is indeed worrying," said Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education MEC.

On Tuesday, News24 reports Three grade 8 students were suspended by the Fons Luminis Secondary School at Diepkloof, Soweto, for raping a classmate on Friday.

The three were suspended on Tuesday morning following a meeting between Lesufi, parents and board members.
